B.J. Thompson is a Texas attorney with 28 years experience. She obtained her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University in 1982, was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1982, and admitted to the United States Federal Courts for the Northern District of Texas in 1983. Ms. Thompson has continuously been recognized as a member of the State Bar College since 1994.
Ms. Thompson's professional associations, honors, awards and activities include current membership in the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association Family Law Section, past Director of the Texas City Attorneys Association, past President of the Johnson/Somervell County Bar Association, Women’s Hall of Fame of North Texas (Young Leaders in Action), and past Director of the Wichita Falls County Bar Association.
For the first 14 years of her legal career, Ms. Thompson served local government. In 1990, she moved from her position as First Assistant City Attorney in Wichita Falls, Texas, to become the City Attorney for the City of Cleburne, Texas. In 1996, Ms. Thompson relocated to Dallas, Texas and entered private practice. She has represented hundreds of clients in family law matters over the past 14 years. Ms. Thompson has also assisted hundreds of clients in preparing wills and the other essential documents needed by people to provide a plan for their loved ones in the event of death. Ms. Thompson is currently focusing on assisting clients in the areas of Family Law and Estate Planning. In addition to the litigation of family law matters, she also offers the option to resolve family law disputes using the collaborative law method.
When not working, B.J. enjoys travel, her husband, Daniel, her pets, and fishing at her lake cabin in East Texas. She is also a sustaining member of the Junior League of Plano.
